The St. Francis High School community is pleased to announce that senior Nick Gulli (Warrenville) was recently named a National Merit $2500 Scholarship winner.

According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, “Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program…and were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors…”

“National Merit Semi-Finalists score in the top ½% to 1% of the 1.6 million students who take the PSAT exam. Semi-Finalists complete an extensive application, including completion of an essay, academic record, and school recommendation. These applications are reviewed, and students who qualify are promoted to Finalist status. From there, about 7500 students are selected to receive National Merit Scholarships for college,” said Bridget Buckley, St. Francis High School Director of Counseling.

Senior Ryan Martin (Bartlett) was among the 15,000 National Merit Finalists, and classmates Nicholas Buranicz (Roselle), Nicholas King (Wheaton), Natalie Kuchler (Carol Stream) and Jack Toppen (Wheaton) were named National Merit Commended Students.

In addition to the National Merit Scholarship Honorees, St. Francis High School’s Class of 2019 includes three students with perfect ACT scores – Nicholas Buranicz, Nicholas King, and Suman Manek (Naperville), an Honorable Mention on the IHSA All-State Academic Team – Adam Cook (Warrenville), two Honorable Mentions on the Daily Herald Leadership Team – Chloe Lynn Hawkins (Naperville) and Caroline Thoms (Wayne), an Honorable Mention for the Daily Herald Academic Team – Sophia Robinson (Wheaton), 44 Illinois State Scholars, 10 AP Scholars, and 42 students graduating with honors, high honors or honors with distinction.
