NAMI DuPage Board Announces the Loss of
Executive Director Angela J. Adkins

September 28, 2018

Wheaton, Illinois – It is with great sorrow that the National Alliance on Mental Illness of DuPage County (NAMI DuPage) announces that Angela Adkins, Executive Director of NAMI DuPage, passed away on September 28,2018 due to complications from cancer. The world is immeasurably better because of Angela. She has been an ambassador in the community advocating on behalf of families coping with mental illness, and a driving force in the growth of NAMI DuPage.

Angela has been with NAMI DuPage for over 10 years and her leadership, passion, and vision have brought us to where we are today. She was a visionary that imagined a home for NAMI DuPage where we could have a café, print shop, recreational activities, and expand our work with the community. She oversaw the growth of Ending the Silence to where it is now a Signature NAMI program taught across the nation. She encouraged the growth of our Peer Program so that we now have trained over 30 individuals and family members to help DuPage families. She opened the Living Room which is an alternative to the E.R. for individuals with a mental health crisis. She fought so that mental health should be treated the same as any physical ailment. Through everything Angela did, she helped others.

The extraordinary legacy Angela leaves behind is survived by her husband, Tony Adkins, and three children, Lucy Causier, Andrew Adkins and Anne-Marie Adkins.

On behalf of our Board of Directors and staff, we extend our deepest sympathies to Angela’s family. We pledge to continue her battle on behalf of individuals and families affected by mental illness in DuPage County.
